[Event] Back to Black - Look #01

Back to Black is the new event organized by CHIC Management.

It's an awareness event about mental illness, thought to help in spreading our understanding about it instead of judgement.
Please note, it's not a charity event, proceeds will go to designers.

[Mesh] PETITE Angelwing Fall Fairy

I officially fell in love with the PETITE's world, so I'm showing them again today, and sharing some useful info and tips if you ever wanted to join this magic world.

Angelwing adapted some of her beautiful fairy outfits to the PETITE avatar by Yabusaka. Here I'm showing you my favourite, Fall Fairy, that you can purchase only at the PETITE Headquarter at Yabusaka.
After checking the pics, you may want to have a look to a list of PETITES Resources, a collection of stores where you can find items that can be resized to fit the tiny avatars, put together by the lovely Dojiba Sabra. Contact her if you're interested in the PETITES world and to get the new lists as soon as she finds out new stores!

TIPS FOR YOUR AVATAR:
Are your feet or hands a different color from the rest of your body? First make sure they are from the same tone as your skin. Put on the skin tinting hud that came with your Petite and choose the white box at the top, just under the word Presets and that should make them match.

If you can't see your body after putting on the demo or avatar, make sure you have Hardware Skinning turned on in your Graphics tab. If you still can't see it, make sure you are wearing the item called Body. You will have choices such as natural, cherry, marks, corruption.

When you wear a petite mer tail or some of the boots available, you don't need to wear your feet. :-)

We're finding that some ground sits will put you under the ground. Try adjusting your offset to raise your avatar.

THE OFFICIAL GATHERING FOR PETITES

You'll find the Petites avatars here, including demos, school uniforms, a mesh clothing layer template, clothing, weapons and more being added every day. Rezzing is allowed, so you can open boxes and rezz a pose stand for fitting and shrinking. Please clean up after yourself before you leave. :-)

The Petites mesh avatar and demos are available at Fallen Gods, also mesh hair from Wasabi Pills, a mesh fairy dress by G Field, floral vine outfits by Frippery and more.

WINGS

Seven's Selections has a vast assortment of wings which will resize down to fit a Petite. A hud controls speed, size, etc. They are also mod, so you can tint the white ones or drop a particle script into a pair.
Material Squirrel wings will resize with the hud and are Xcite compatible. EDIT: I got this kind message from Kala Bijoux, owner of Material Squirrel: "Thank you for mentioning Material Squirrel Wings as a resource. All of our wings have scripted resize via the HUD - but if they don't go small enough, IM Kala Bijoux and she can get you a pair that does. All Material Squirrel wings are mod as well - the scripts inside are not mod so they show in inventory as no mod but once rezzed or worn, the object will be mod."

HAIR

Wasabi Pills has hair with resize scripts that will shrink down to fit. Be sure to try the demo first, as not all of them shrink enough.
Jolie Femme has hair with a resizer script. Look for the "Touch to Fit" logo on the vendors.
Battle Angel has some resize-scripted hair that will fit. I haven't tried the ones that aren't scripted, so I don't know if they will shrink down enough in edit mode.
CaTwA hair hair will resize with the built in scripts.
fri.day hair should shrink down just with editing tools.
Truth hair will shrink down if you add a resize script to it. Even the already scripted texture-change hair will work, as long as it's mod. You may fight with the popups a bit to get the menu you want, but it can be done.

CLOTHES AND COSTUMES

The Looking Glass has clothing for Petites (and a very nice fae area close by).
Pacific Sunrise has mertails and mermaid jewelry for Petites. Look for the Petite Minnows vendor at the entrance
Isanna Delvalle has opened a clothing store in the marketplace.
Sinful Needs has demon/demoness outfits, horns and tails that will resize with the A4 Hud.
KaiAna has a variety of clothing, from silks to skating outfits (with little skates!), medieval dresses, gypsy outfits, jeans and tops and more. Take the teleporter to the Petite Hideaway.
Lillia Coveria has some Petite items in her Marketplace store and her inworld store, with more to come soon.
Les Petites Nymphes has two fairy outfits for sale, which includes bracelets, ring, head wreath, wings, etc. More in the works!

NEKO

Lemon Tea, animated tails to fit Petites.

EYES
Ibanez prim eyes will resize nicely, no script needed. The size I made mine is X 0.0151, Y 0.0193, Z 0.0168. That's a good place to start and then you can tweak the size however you wish.

EYELASHES

Redgrave lashes will fit if you add a resize script, shrink down and then fit as you normally do.

In her notecard, Dojiba also includes a tiny camera hud to give you a proper view according to your size, and a resize script. Another resize script that works even better is here on the marketplace, free.

I will never be able to catch up with all the things I meant to blog, but at least I'm giving a try.
Today I want to share with you products from some brands I love that unfortunately I have neglected lately.
Gawk and d.select have just released a new line of casual clothings, very very cute and with reasonable prices. I'm wearing the cute Rose Shaded Longpullover from Gawk! matched with Glow leggins violett from d.select in the first pic, and the beautiful Simple cotton jacket sheer grey with Leather shorts silver and Glow leggins silver. The jacket comes in several layers, each with a different degree of transparency, showing more or less the underlaying top. I picked the most transparent!
The set je suis... chic was a special edition for CHIC management first birthday from je suis... and now it was just released in the full version. Earrings and necklaces are sold separatedly but they come in gold and silver version.

(Mesh part II) PETITE Elves and Dracos - Fallen Gods Inc

As I promised, here's another post about uses of mesh.

Not only clothes, shoes and accessories can be mesh. A whole avatar can be mesh.

This is the case of the PETITE series from Yabusaka and Fallen Gods Inc.

As the name suggests, they are tiny mesh avatars. In each pack you will find a skin, a shape, eyes, hands in 3 options, feet and huds that allow you to change the skin color and the facial expressions, as well as an alpha layer to make your regular avi invisible.

3 clothing options are included in the pack, while the hairstyle is specifically made for the PETITE serie by Wasabi Pills. Other designers, like Pink Fuel, G Field and more, are releasing or are about to release PETITE items, so stay tuned and don't miss this amazing cuteness!

Please note: on Firestorm, I need to relog before seeing the avatar correctly once worn, and same for when I go back to my regular avi. It may be my problem but I thought it was worth mentioning it.

Mesh (part I) + News and Sales

So, my poor desktop is still waiting to see a doctor. In the meanwhile I'm trying to survive on SL with my laptop, which is not the best thing ever, and I'm always late. That being said, let's see what I have for you today.

Mesh landed on Second Life some months ago and getting used to it took me a bit. I actually still have some problems that I will explain you in this post, but I also greatly appreciate all the good features that are now added to our virtual selves.

In this outfit, hair, pants and shoes are mesh.

The hairstyle is Cherilyn from Wasabi Pills, a mesh hair forerunner since the first day.

Pants, Rabea, are a new release from Jada Humby Couture, which has recently put out a whole mesh collection that you should really check out.

Shoes are from NX-Nardcotix, Zoe, that I have already worn in the past and are still one of my favourite mesh shoes.

Please note that I'm not an expert, everything I write is related to my personal experience only.

The main issue I personally have with mesh is related to proportions: although the biggest part of the designers offers several sizes of their mesh products, I apparently have many troubles in finding the good one.

It doesn't obviously depend on the designers, that are all working really hard to master and spread the new tool, but on the big variety of our shapes and on the limits rigged mesh has at the moment on the grid. I am investigating about the matter, I'll let you know.

Winter is a quite slim avi, not thin as some models or kawaii japanese-style little girls, but I would consider her rather small. "S" and "M" sizes technically fit her, but they completely kills her hips (which are not huge but still someway round), giving her a weird and twisted shape. "L" and curvy sizes are way too big, out of proportion with the rest of her body.

I am not the kind who is not willing to tweak with her shape a bit to fit clothes, but not at the point of deforming her or totally changing her appearence.

For the records, a group of mesh forerunning designers (SLink, Lelutka, Celoe, Mon Tissu) provided a Standard Sizing Package, on which for instance Jada Humby's mesh clothes are shaped. I didn't get a chance to give it a try myself, so I am sharing the news for the sake of honesty, I will let you know as soon as I manage to examine the thing.

With hair, it's someway easier: I usually manage to wear mesh hairstyles with minor changes to my head size. However, sometimes it's still not possible: I obviously cannot successfully change my hair size from 20 to 70 in order to wear a mesh hairstyle.

So, thing is, ALWAYS try a demo before buying mesh items. Take your time to experiment and check: it's way better than being mad later for having wasted your money.

Now let's go to the good sides: mesh items move together with your shape, giving you a way more natural look than prims or sculpties, where your gestures and poses are limited if you don't want to have stuff coming out of your body or liying in awkward positions. Pictures like those below would have required adjusting prims inworld, and then re-adjusting after the shoot, or a lot of Photoshop work to rebuild the parts my body would have eaten. With mesh, this problem doesn't exist anymore: hair and all mesh parts follow your movement.

Apparently my year hasn't started at its best... My RL is still very messy and, the cream of the crop, the desktop had a nervous breakdown and needs to see a doctor.
In the meanwhile, I'm trying to survive in my Second Life on my laptop, very uncomfortable to take pics and such but there's no choice at the moment!

My first post of 2012 features recent releases from two great Italian designers, Berta Avro & Bubi Bolissima of Severed Garden and Hlin Bluebird of Al Vulo!

Ylenia, worn here in the shade "sky", is a full outfit perfect for winter times, including shoes and hat. Other color options are available as well. Check the details, I love them!

Sakia is one of the newest faces at Al Vulo!, shown here in the fair tone. Each make up comes with blonde and brown eyebrows, with and without hairbase and cleavage. Other tones available in store.

[Event] Dark Magic Winter - Severed Garden

RL is heavy these days, so blogging gets slow. However, I managed to pay a quick visit to Dark Magic Winter, the event run by ZombiePopcorn from December the 1st to December the 15th. The place is simply amazing, actually conveying the magic and fantasy mood, it's worth a visit just for itself, and the participating stores are the cream of the crop, each with a special release for the event and some of their best selling products.

[Hunt] Peace On Earth Hunt 4

Peace on Earth Hunt, organized by Sequoia Nightfire, started yesterday its 4th edition! It's one of the biggest and most famous hunts in Second Life. The brands involved are more than 200 and the item you're looking for is a globe. Usually POE designers are not mean and the globes rather easy to find. You may also find on the ground some white doves that point you the right path.

One of the most amazing Gorean designers, if not THE most amazing, Cymoril Lightfoot, is back to business!

Her store, BINA, had already reopened some months ago hosting her old creations, but now new stunning releases are coming!

Thorhild is a beautiful garment inspired toViking women, thought for the northern ladies of Gor. All textures are handmade, it includes boots in two versions, for viewer 1 and viewer 2, as well as the amazing brooch necklace and a fur wrap (not worn in the pic). Today I'm featuring Italian designers, the talented Berta Avro & Bubi Bolissima of Severed Garden and Hlin Bluebird of Al Vulo!, whose creations are great samples of quality and originality.

Dana outfit from Severed Garden is perfect for winter times, it comes with accessories and boots, and also with a cute frost breath maker worn on the mouth that produces a frost cloud! How cute is that?

It is available in various shades (shown in olive here) and boots are also sold separately if you want other color options.

A note on the pose: it's a recent release from Diesel Works, from the Shyla pack, including 11 beautiful and kinda dramatic poses, perfect for your artistic shots.

Giulia is the newest face from Al Vulo! Already available in the tan tone (and a special make up, blogged here, is the prize of the DIMH 3), it was released yesterday in the porcelain tone.
It comes in several make ups and each in many options: plain, cleavage, freckles, teeth, and eyebrows in different colors on tattoo layer are also provided. I really love teeth on Giulia, they are very nice and soft, not giving the "scary rabbit" look that sometimes comes out when wearing this kind of skin.

Here are my favourite make ups, showing the plain version on the left (no teeth on first row, with teeth on second row) and the freckled version on the right (same as before).
Pictures are not postprocessed at all and shot using the "Nam's optimal skin 2" windlight sky.

Another prize I absolutely recommend is the one from AKEYO: the store offers 3 unreleased dance animations together with their amazing AO hud. I totally fell in love with this hud: it doesn't need any configuration, you just rezz it and add your animations, it will recognize them itself! No need to touch any notecard! And if it ever couldn't recognize the animation, a menu will ask you where do you want to place it. I have always wanted to create an original AO but my laziness prevented me to do so thinking to the huge notecard job... but now it's way easier! Furthermore, the hud has a dance option, where you can store and access your dances! Thank you AKEYO!

Mesh warning: the shoes I'm wearing, from Nardcotix, are mesh. I think it's the first mesh item I've ever shown here, some others will come in my next Vintage Fair entries and I'm planning to share my thoughts about mesh sometime soon. The Gorean Room is an event similar to The Dressing Room but it's consacrated to fantasy and gorean fashion. Each round lasts 2 weeks, I'm not sure when this one started, so you may want to hurry, just in case.

Many interesting things are available, I'm showing the one I like most.

Rustic Girl in Grey is a low class outfit with some gypsy flavor, made of a sculpted top (no clothing layers), a flexi skirt, necklace and bracelet. The designer is Katrina Kristan, owner of Old World, a new to me store offering clothes, furniture and buldings for your roleplay needs. You can have a sample of her talent in the pic, featuring not only the outfit but also the beautiful medieval library available at the store.

So this is Halloween! Although it's not a traditional celebration in my country, it's been spreading all over in the last years, above all among kids.

Autumn is late in my country this year: I'm still wearing sandals and sleeveless tanks. However, nothing more than imagination can make me feel the spirit of the season, and this happened thanks to some amazing fantasy releases by Kouse's Sanctum and EMO-tions.
Kouse Singh released some stunning gowns, as usual available in many colors, but the one that hit me was "chocolate", a warm brown shade perfect for the upcoming season. They are available with trimming in gold or silver.

Jewelry Fair 2011 is an event featuring jewelry designers in Second Life, with part of the proceeds going to the charity organization Oxfam.
Each of the 4 sim involved is inspired to an element: Fire, Earth, Air and Water. The designers are offering donation items, exclusive items, gatcha and gifts, as well as the best of their creations.

Sorry, apparently I can't help it these days!

Since I missed the early applications and I will need to wait till they will be opened again, in the meanwhile I decided to focus on the appearence of my character. Going through a lot of issues, including SL totally breaking the shape I made her and forcing me to create another one, in the end I'm still doubtful about one of the most important things: her skin! I've been gathering demos from, seriously, *everywhere* and spent several nights trying them on, but I'm in a real impasse.

The Hogwarts: Your Story sim is open to the public everyday from 6PM to 9AM SLT, so you can visit and check the amazing building even though it's still under construction.

The sim is also hosting a small fair where you can get amazing themed items for your roleplay.

I bought a lot of stuff in different moments and forgot to write down all the prices. But I can tell everything is quite affordable, besides a couple of exceptions, and many useful items like crests are freebies (which allows you to convert non-roleplay outfits in Hogwarts uniforms).

I put together my looks using mainly items from the fair and observing the stunning genius of Anya Ohmai, who created 16 different avatars according to House, sex and age. Chapeau! Don't miss her post, it's simply amazing.

In the end I managed to install Firestorm on my laptop and started to experiment a bit. It wasn't too crashy but unfortunately, when shadows are enabled, the quality of my pics radically drops... I will need to work and find a decent balance.

Now, I'm all excited because of all the upcoming Hogwarts-related things (beware some entries about that soon), but I didn't forget to check some new and old fashion events, above all the wallet-friendly ones!

Thanks to the amazing Mary Potter from Sn@tch, today I'm back to a roleplay post!
This great outfit include 2 skirts, trousers, 3 socks, 3 sweaters and a shirt that you can mix and match at your own taste, as well as ballet flats and ties for all the Houses! I'm wearing everything in Ravenclaw, that is where I have always been sorted since when the first Harry Potter tests appeared on the net and actually my favourite House.

Since I logged in on Firestorm to try the new copy-to-clipboard-worn-stuff feature, at this point I decided to try shadows again. They are still unsupported, as the viewer itself warns us when enabling them, but I'm stubborn...and I managed to take this close up to show you better the lovely hairstyle...

...but then I dared too much...I knew it was better not to move my camera with shadows enabled, but I did it anyway. I took the pic, hit on save...and crashed! I was lucky enough to get this closeup on the shoes. The windlight setting I had on for the headshot messes up a bit the skin matching but I swear it was very good!! I worked a lot on that and I was very pround, but I didn't feel brave enough to try again... So I disabled shadows and relogged to take the rest of the pics!

Truth District & The Sea Hole

After giving a little break to my graphic card (the poor thing was hitting 75°C, no wonder each SL viewer crashed after 2 minutes), I'm slowly trying to catch up with all the stuff I left behind.

For obvious reasons, my shadows experiments are temporarily suspended: I managed to take a pic with enabled shadows at Truth District (that is a really amazing sim and it will be a great setting for pics once the crowd is gone) but after the overheating I didn't dare to enable them again. Now, yesterday I installed the new Firestorm beta, so I'll probably try again at some point...wish me luck!

Talking of Truth District, some of the most amazing designers on the grid have a spot there. I'm sure you already got all the gifts, so I'll point your attention on a store that, my bad, I didn't know, but that was instant love: The Sea Hole. My New Quest

During these crazy days I started the Quest for the perfect viewer, but none that is currently available is able to make me totally happy. I usually log in with Phoenix, but with all the new features offered by the Viewer 2 code (as well as some other kind of problems), I'm not satisfied anymore and I'm looking for something else.

I think I tried almost everything available and I'm still not satisfied, so I decided to open a JIRA for the upcoming Firestorm to point a feature I loved a lot in Phoenix and that I think could be useful and interesting for all those who take pics in Second Life: the two little arrows that allow you to switch to the next or to the previous sky without having to select them manually one by one. Hopefully it will be considered if it's popular, so if you think it's something you would like too, feel free to comment and spread the voice! Check it out here!

I suppose it's rather evident I have a weakness for everything that looks even just a bit boho or hippie. So I decided to share some of my insanity with you today, keeping in mind everyone's budget too!

After seeing the post by Fauna, I had to get my Mist dress from VERO MODERO.
The one I picked is called Africa, bringing the flavour and the awesome colours of that land. 350L.

There are also cheaper ways to go in boho mood. GField sent to their group the cute Puff-sleeve Top & Maxi Skirt, a sample of their new release (no group tag needed). I matched it with the cute and totally free Classic Flats in Gold from Baby Monkey @ The Free Dove, that are available in other colours and together with the Classic Pumps.
